This
Plaque was presented by the Mayor and people of Athens, PA in
August 1996 to commemorate the Campagin of General Sullivan and
Clinton into Indian Territory during the American War of Independence
1779.
In
August of 1996 members of Selin's Independent Rifle Company along
with those of the 3rd NY Regiment, the 64th Regiment of Foot and
representatives of the Indian Department walked a portion of the
route that was taken by General John Sullivan and his Army leading
into Newtown, NY.
This
plaque was presented to those representitives of each of these
groups and we are honnored that It now resides with Selin's Independent
Company for the next few years.
To
those brave men that ventured into this widerness in 1779 as well
as our modern day reenactors who followed in their footsteps:
